For Laura, it’s always been about way more than just hair.
After studying business & communications at Queens University, Laura decided to follow her heart and pursue cosmetology at the AVEDA Institute of Charlotte. After graduating she trained & worked alongside several of the country’s most renowned stylists from prestigious salons like Neil George in Los Angeles, Pierre Michel in Manhattan, Jon Ric Hair Spa in Charlotte and her mentor, a salon owner & master stylist from Miami. After extensive training & continuing education, she stepped into her role as a stylist with complete confidence and determination and began a successful career as a stylist in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 2011 Laura & her pup Wylie ventured east to New Bern for a change of scenery & a slower pace. She opened the doors of Magnolia Jane Salon in 2014 with a vision of a salon built on an unshakable foundation where grace, beauty and integrity flow together just like a magnolia tree. (Jane is Laura’s middle name that she shares with her mother, Carol Jane, as well as both her maternal & paternal great-grandmothers, Rhoda Jane and Ocie Jane. All strong, confident, yet loving, kind women). It is vital to Laura that MJS not only be a welcome, comfortable, positive place where guests’ of the salon feel warm and happy, but also where her team feels encouraged, poured into and supported.

While important to have, thriving in this industry goes above technical and creative skills for Laura, it is also about developing trust between a guest and stylist, empowering & encouraging those that work alongside her, and building strong bonds in the community she loves.

When not in the salon, you can find Laura outdoors with her husband & 3 year old daughter, gardening, reading, writing, at church or watching a good classic comedy movie (most likely something with Chris Farley).
